For the 2015 edition, the city-state of Singapore hosts the WCPT congress. More than 100 countries represented, over 2500 participants were present this time. This event is the only one gathering all the fields of the profession in the same place. Clinicians, researchers and leaders of the profession are joining their knowledge to share, discuss and bring Physical Therapy to the next level.
This edition has seen the rise of news networks as WCPT Future for students and early professionals and early researchers and a subgroup for early career researchers. It was the occasion to make the connection with the future of the profession. The WCPT attached lot of importance to have a contact with the youth. It was point that this group is a first step to build something bigger and it is important to work with existing organizations as APTSA (Asia) and ECPTS (Europe). |
One common though sharing during the all congress and repeated by a lot of interventions was about exercises, self-management and education of the patient. The physio is leading the patient but he is not the only one to act. As much the patient is involved in the therapy, better results occur. So let’s change the mentality!
It was also the election of a new president and vice-president as Emma Stokes took the place of Marilyn Moffat and Margot Skinner as the new vice-president.
Over 1500 posters were presented, you could assist to oral presentation as huge symposium on Clinical trials, Pain, or musculoskeletal disorders, follow the classic 8 minutes presentations, trying the news rapid-5 concept or even participate to debates. The congress was made to help you to get new knowledge, to up-date you on different topics but also to get closer to your colleagues around the world with the networking session that allow you to talk about your experience and listen how it goes in different part of the world.
So let’s be prepared for the next time… in July 2017 in… Cape Town!
See you there,
